The Tractor Story - Volume Three

The Tractor Story - Volume Three

Vintage Power - Horses, Steam and the First Fifty Years of Tractors

With Stephen Richmond & Jonathan Whitlam

In the third volume of The Tractor Story horses, steam traction engines and ploughing engines share the stage with the first early tractors. We see how they developed from basic pulling machines to the more sophisticated tractors of the 1950’s and 60’s – Vintage Power at its best!

The programme opens with a visit to The Museum of East Anglian Life in Stowmarket, Suffolk to admire their fine collection of steam powered machines and a pair of magnificent Walsh and Clarke ploughing engines, which ran on paraffin.

Many classic tractor names from this era are represented including Fordson, International Harvester, Ferguson, Case, John Deere, Massey Harris, Caterpillar, Saunderson, Nuffield, Marshall, Fowler, County, Allis-Chalmers, David Brown and Massey Ferguson.

A special feature of the programme reunites a tractor fitter with the Fordson and International Harvester machines that he once kept running on the farms of East Anglia. He explains what “made them tick” and gives a nostalgic insight into the variety of jobs and characteristics of these particular tractors.

Stephen and Jonathan again present the programme from Cheffins Agricultural Saleground in Cambridgeshire at one of their world famous Vintage and Classic Auctions. With masses of tractor action filmed at various events throughout Britain over the last four years, where period equipment is used as it once was, this programme celebrates the very best of - Vintage Power.
